Feasibility Studies Winters, Dorsey & Company, LLC - small logo
WDC has successfully completed feasibility studies for large and small projects in many of the world's mining districts.

Among WDC's feasibility studies are:

Magma Superior underhand cut and fill mine in Arizona
Robinson porphyry copper and gold project in Nevada
Kori Kollo gold project in Bolivia
Other base metal, precious metal, ferro-alloy and non-metallics projects in North America, Latin America and Asia

The scope of WDC's feasibility studies includes:
Ore reserve estimates
Mine planning
Milling
Leaching
Solvent extraction and electrowinning
Molybdenum concentrate leaching and roasting
Copper smelting and refining
Gold ore processing
Roasting
Calcining
Other mining and metallurgical processes

WDC's feasibility study for the Magma Superior underhand cut and fill mine in Arizona resulted in reopening a successful small high-grade operation. WDC was responsible for designing the dewatering programs and other engineering assignments in this mine, as well as for cost accounting and scheduling for its development and startup.
In 1992, WDC successfully completed a detailed feasibility study and basic engineering for the $300 million Robinson copper and gold project near Ely, Nevada, for Magma Copper Company. WDC designed a 35,000-tpd sulfide copper concentrator, later expanded to 46,000 tpd, the largest new copper concentrator in the United States in recent years. The design and engineering included more than 80 drawings of the plant and infrastructure and all mine drawings.

This was the first grass-roots project to be based on the use of a single grinding line for such a large milling capacity. WDC developed detailed specifications for SAG mills and ball mills.

WDC prepared all bidding documents for detail engineering and construction management, managed the bidding process, evaluated the bids and recommended the successful bidder. WDC also was awarded the detail design, procurement and construction management for the pit dewatering system.

Ore reserves, mine planning and mine equipment selection
Metallurgical sampling program, including drilling and bulk sampling
Metallurgical test program, development of flowsheet, design criteria and selection of mill equipment
Powerline routing and cost estimating
Exploration and development of a water supply for the mill and potable water
Detailed tailings dam design
Geotechnical engineering program for pit slope design and mill foundations
Concentrate rail loadout facility design
Operating cost estimates for all areas
Capital cost estimate for total project
Financial analysis

Utilizing a team approach, involving client staff, WDC staff and numerous subcontractors — all managed by WDC — was the hallmark of the large-scale project.

In 1991, WDC was contracted to prepare a Bankable Feasibility Study for the Kori Kollo project, majority owned by Battle Mountain Gold Company. The study was used by Battle Mountain Gold to obtain project financing from international lending institutions including OPIC, IFC and CAF. WDC and BMG engineers worked together to
produce the Bankable Feasibility Study.  Tasks completed included:
preparation and review of ore reserve estimates
preparation and review of mine capital and operating cost estimates
review and modification of plant capital and operating estimates
preparation of cash flow analysis
These are merely a few examples in a long history of successful WDCI feasibility studies worldwide.
